Trattoria Guelfa was born between Santa Maria Novella Rail station and Fortezza da Basso, and its famous Palazzo dei Congressi. The memory of that shop, once property of coal suppliers, remains indelibly imprinted in the locals. In addition to the sale of coal, the shop was used as a meeting place where, those who wanted, could heat their meals with the help of firing embers. This spirit has been preserved inside the restaurant even when, about 70 years ago, it became the first typical Florentine restaurant in via Guelfa.
Since its first management, Trattoria Guelfa has stood out for its welcoming and familiar atmosphere, an environment that has always served as a link between customers and staff, helping to communicate all the love for Florence, its inhabitants and the people passing through this characteristic location. This love for Florence and for Trattoria Guelfa pushed Enzo Di Benedetto, the chef of the restaurant since 1993 to take over the management of the business in 2005, continuing the tradition, pushing new flavors in full respect of the Tuscan food and wine culture and spreading that typical light-heartedness of moments of sharing.
The restaurant, renovated at the end of 2019, now offers particular attention to Tuscan cuisine to its most loyal customers and for those people looking for an intimate, welcoming environment, to eat dishes in line with tradition. Trattoria Guelfa is the perfect place to share a moment of happiness.
